Reviews
I wasn't expect I get much when I walked in half an hour before close. I lived in Texas for 15 years and have not been hugely impressed with the Mexican food in Milwaukee. Some of it is passable and decent but nothing has really blown me away. The cons: they were short staffed. The chef was the one who was our waiter and also bussing other tables. He salsa had been in a fridge towards the back and was frozen. Given the labor shortages in the restaurant industry right now, I wasn't bothered. The pluses: seafood menu looked amazing, we ordered the platter for two (trying to cut down on cleanup work for the kitchen as the last table of the night when they were short staffed) and it was AMAZING. Salsas we're on point and not bland and watery. The platter had fajita steak, chicken, chorizo, potatoes, fire roasted onions and peppers and was delicious. The sides were pretty average rice, beans, and lettuce but it was obviously put together with care at attention to detail- even though we were the last table of the night, and the chef was also out tipping up everyone's drinks and working front od house, too. We tipped aggressively because the man was clearly putting his heart into the job, wearing all the hats, and frankly was doing amazing and running himself ragged without letting quality slip. I would have told the manager but that was him too! We will be back with friends and I will give the ajo shrimp a try next time!
Great service and food. The beers were cold and the food was excellent. The guacamole was really good too! Lots of Mexican beers to choose from.
This is a newer restaurant that just barely got started before they had to shut down for covid and they have reopened again, trying to find their footing. The atmosphere in here is the closest I have ever seen to what one experiences in Cancun. The decor is bright, the music was loud, the staff was lively, the drinks were generous and the food---fantastic. Someone could be turned off by no air conditioning but I thought it was part of the charm and really helped those Mango Margaritas go down. We started off our meal with complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were very good and were warm and crisp like they just came out of the oven The salsa was very good and not spicy at all. We then ordered the guacamole which was freshly made and served with the same warm chips. The menu is not your typical Mexican Restaurant menu with the usual combo plates. There seemed to be a lot of fresh seafood dishes. I had the seafood tacos which come with shrimp, tilapia, and octopus wrapped in tortillas with beans, rice, and a salad garnish. I did hold the octopus and substituted flour tortillas for the corn, Food was very good but I did end up taking most of it home as I was full from the appetizers. My sister had a burger topped with cheese and crab meat (different, but it worked for her) and that came with fries. She ended up taking most of hers home too. There was one other table there, but I did see a couple to go orders picked up so hopefully, this new place will take off. Oh and like another reviewer said, the owner did come around personally to check on everything
If you like seafood and Mexican food this might be the place for you! This place has only been open for 3 months. I was told the grand opening celebration will be in 2 weeks. They are in the planning process of doing some remolding. The atmosphere was bright and loud. There was a party going on in one area of the restaurant. People at the bar in the middle of the restaurant and a few tables of people eating as well. The mariachis were there playing and singing so that also amped up how loud it was. Unfortunately I felt it was so loud I couldn't hear my friend throughout dinner. That part I didn't like. The menu has a very large seafood selection. If you want more traditional items they are located on the back of the menu. They are a little on the pricey side seeing the majority of the menu is seafood. I decided to get a shrimp dish based on the recommendation of our waitress. The Don Bontaneros! Apparently it's one of their specialties! I really enjoyed the flavor! It was a huge plate of shrimp and 2 mussels along with a side of rice, beans and salad. I asked for some tortillas to eat with my meal. My friend kept it simple and ordered a cheese quesadilla appetizer. She loved it! We also really liked their $5 house margarita very refreshing! I will definitely go back to try more of the seafood dishes they offer.
Excellent food. The seafood tacos were very good. The margaritas tasted fresh and not overly sweet. The owner was very gracious.
